DID YOU KNOW

that the pattern on the Calathea lancifolia (see photo on page 10 ) actually looks like many smaller leaves? This makes the plant less interesting for herbivores to eat, because they tend to prefer large leaves. Calathea are smart like that!

Altitude games: Plants placed at different heights are great eye-catchers. The bushy Calathea, however, is perfectly remarkable on the floor by itself .

If your Calathea is not getting enough water or humidity, it will let you know! Its leaves will start to curl, the leaf tips will become brown or the leaves will simply fall off. Mist your plant a bit more often and give it some more water, and your Calathea will be back to its beautiful self in no time.

Because Calathea thrive in semi-shaded to shaded areas, they are the perfect plant for a hallway, bathroom or bedroom with less light. Although you may want to make sure you aren’t surprised (or woken up!) by the sound of the folding movements in the evening or early morning.
